A 20-year veteran in foreign trade shares legal and efficient "human flesh search" methods, covering official website reverse lookup, Google advanced search, LinkedIn inference, social media reverse lookup, WHOIS, and PDF tender document mining, etc., with practical steps, tips and templates to help you improve the hit rate of your outreach emails and accurately obtain purchasing emails.

In my 20th year in foreign trade, I've relied not on luck, but on information asymmetry.

Finding the customer's "precise email address" is always the most crucial step in the sales process.

Below, I will share all the pitfalls I've encountered and the "human flesh search methods" I've discovered over the past 20 years.


1. Why can't you find your customers' email addresses?

Most of the time, it's not that customers are unwilling to give you their email address, but rather:

  1. The official website only lists generic email addresses like info@ / sales@ → Sending emails there is like throwing a stone into the sea.

  2. LinkedIn only displays job titles, not email addresses.

  3. The procurement department's real email address is deeply hidden and only accessible to suppliers.

Therefore, the real problem to be cracked is not "email", but:

👉How to find the "valid email address" that is actually responsible for purchasing and will reply to you.


II. Seven Methods for Obtaining Emails Through "Human Vigilance" Treasured by a 20-Year Veteran of Foreign Trade

For each of the following points, I have provided specific steps so you can follow them immediately.


Method 1: Reverse lookup method from the official website (the most basic but with the highest success rate)

Although the official website usually only provides a general email address, many people overlook the hidden entry point:

① Real email addresses often appear on hidden pages of the official website:

  • About / Team

  • Career recruitment page

  • Press Media Contact

  • Support After-sales Page

  • Download the manual, certification, and contact information in the PDF document.

Practical skills:

step:

  1. Open the website

  2. Enter the above page

  3. Press Ctrl + F to search:

    @ mail contact manager
  4. Search PDF:

    site:xxx.com filetype:pdf @

Case Study:
A German client's official website only has info@xxx.de However , it was found in the product manual PDF:

martin.schultz@xxx.de (Technical Lead)

The hit rate is extremely high.


Method 2: Google Advanced Search

Google is the world's largest online manhunt tool.


① Directly search email traces:

"@company.com" buyer "@company.com" procurement "@company.com" manager

② Search by name and match email address:

"David Miller" "@company.com"

③ Search email address format patterns:

site:company.com "@company.com" "firstname.lastname@company.com"

You can deduce the email format of an entire company from just one email address.

Method 2's "global information gathering" is quite difficult, and beginners often don't know what to search for or how to search.

I now use AB Guest's "Global Search" as my first step in filtering.

Saves 70% of search time, especially suitable for batch development.

Then you can use Google and LinkedIn for further verification.


Method 3: Inference based on LinkedIn + email format

Although LinkedIn doesn't display your email address, it will tell you:

  • Employee Name

  • Position

  • department

  • area

With a name and domain name, you can deduce the email address.


① How to find the real buyers?

Search in the "People" section:

  • buyer

  • procurement

  • sourcing

  • purchasing

  • supply chain

  • product manager

  • engineer


② How to deduce the email address? (Important)

Common formats:

  • firstname.lastname@

  • firstname@

  • f.lastname@

  • firstname.l@

Find 1 email address → Infer all employee email addresses.

Verification tools:

  • hunter verify

  • apollo

  • mailtester

  • zero bounce

Method 4: Hunter/Apollo/Lusha

These tools can catch:

  • publicly available email addresses

  • Email format

  • Employee name/position's corresponding email address

Method 5: Reverse lookup on social media (FB / IG / YouTube)

Many small and medium-sized enterprises place their email addresses on social media:

Facebook:

Page → About → Email

Commonly used: service@ / brand@ / marketing@

Instagram:

Profile → Contact → Email

Commonly used: business@ / collab@

Youtube:

About → Email (Verification required)

Commonly used: press@ / info@

The hit rate was surprisingly high.


Method 6: WHOIS Domain Reverse Lookup (Essential for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises)

Many companies use real email addresses when registering domain names.

Common information in WHOIS:

  • Registrant Email

  • Admin Email

  • Tech Email

Especially suitable for small companies where the CEO is involved in procurement.


Method 7: Reverse lookup of PDF / tender documents / table of contents (extremely powerful but rarely used)

Google search:

B2B customers are often:

  • Table of contents

  • manual

  • Tender documents

  • Report

Please leave the email address of the person in charge.
